MICAT: MICAT is conducted by Mudra Institute of Communication & Advertising (MICA),Ahmedabad. MICA is the best B-School in India to offer courses in Marketing, Branding and Advertising management. The pre-requisite for MICAT is CAT .However in 2011 MICA accepted only MICAT and not CAT. The paper checks your command on English, Quantitative Analysis, General Knowledge, a psychometric analysis,Picture Story writing and Essay writing and Reasoning. It’s a mix of accuracy and speed. The paper is divided into 2 sections. English,Quants, Reasoning are in section 1. Picture Story and Essay writing in section 2. There were 3 essays in 2011 paper. These two sections were of 2.15 Hrs and half hour section for psychometric analysis test section.

First section started off with a sub-section comprising of word associations which were a good mix of 15 easy and difficult questions. Then, the next subsection was of 25 General Knowledge questions which comprised of a good mix of static, current and media related GK. This was followed by the next sub-section which consisted of Quantitative Aptitude, Logical Reasoning and Data Interpretation. There were a lot of questions from probability and progressions. The next subsection consisted of Verbal Ability and Reading Comprehension (RC). Again this section was a notch higher in difficulty than that of last year. There were two RC passages of 4 questions each and 22 other questions comprising fill-in-the-blanks, sentence completion, Para jumbles etc.

The second section was the writing section which started off with a topic “Trial by media is justified.”  One had to first give arguments in favor of the statement and then in the next essay give arguments against the same statement. Finally, one had to tell the editor of the newspaper magazine about this topic in 40-50 words. This was followed up by a series of 10 different cartoons. One had to order them and construct a story.

For this whole Part 1 we had 2 hours and 15 minutes which was really demanding and in the end I had to rush through the essays so that I could complete them in time. Also here it was mentioned that 1/4th marks would be deducted for negative marking in the first section (except the written part)

Psychometric analysis

Next Part comprised of the psychometric analysis and all the questions were compulsory. There were no right/wrong answers in this section. One’s paper will not be evaluated if he/she misses out attempting any part in this section. It started off with a list of 30 statements. One had to select any 10 which best described us!! Then came the set of 26 questions each having 6 options and we had to tick the option which we supported (very strongly/strongly/moderately). This was followed by 10 questions wherein one had to prioritize the options on the basis of our preference. For this we were given 30 minutes.

Syllabus MICAT 

MICAT is full of surprises.One has to be creative and the bend of mind's thought process to the left side of the brain. :) .

Mica judges you on English and mind it quality English . One should have a good command on vocab.

• Read newspapers everyday.
• Complete a novel every week. The quality of English has to be good.
• Write an essay everyday as mica wants people with good writing skills.
• Grammer has to be as iridescent as possible.
• Word association test .
• Knowledge of Idioms and Phrases, Proverbs might help you in Word Association Test, Verbal and General Awareness sections.
• Maths and Data Interpretation are normal and are below CAT level.
• Good General knowledge is a must to clear MICAT. Also current affairs from the advertising industry helps.
• Questions like books and authors, geographic locations,quotes, tagline of brands,Ceos etc are seen much in MICAT.

Psychometric test i believe cannot be prepared and should be impromptu to that situation.There chill about this section and do all the questions in this section.There are no wrong answers.

We would recommend you to enhance your English through Barrons Gre. There are different word lists which one must learn throughly to have a good command on vocab.

• For G.K and Current affairs one has to have the habit of going through newspapers like "The Hindu" and "The Economic Times" .
• For News and updates on advertising one can go through Afaqs dot com.
• For contacting MICA students and to know the insights on e can look into Pagaulguy forums and catch people who are preparing for MICAT Test . There are groups on Facebook which help one prepare in better manner as you get a variety of good quality questions. In 2010 Mica group on Facebook was a hit and there were some questions which were directly an image of the questions discussed in the group.A Sample Micat Paper.
